Medicare PDPs

Medicare Part D, also known as the Medicare prescription drug benefit, is an optional U.S. federal government program created to aid Medicare beneficiaries in paying for prescription drugs. Part D was enacted as part of the M.M.A. act of 2003 and went into effect on January 1, 2006. Through part D, prescription drug benefits are provided by private insurance companies that receive payment from both enrollees and the government. Part D plans usually pay most of the cost for prescriptions filled by their plan enrollees. Plans can, however, be reimbursed for much of this cost through rebates from manufacturers and pharmacies.
